PHOENIX, July 30, 2024 - Kari Lake, a Republican gubernatorial candidate in Arizona, has won the Republican Senate primary. Lake will face off against Democratic Rep. Mark Kelly in the general election in November.
Lake's victory comes after a contentious primary race in which she faced several challengers, including incumbent Senator Martha McSally. Lake's campaign focused on her support for former President Donald Trump and her opposition to COVID-19 restrictions.
Following Lake's primary win, Kelli Ward, the chairwoman of the Arizona GOP, resigned from her post. Ward had previously been a vocal supporter of Lake, but she resigned after the release of an audiotape on which she offered Lake "any help" she needed to win the election.
